About Us:
The Hance-Alexander House, originally two structures dating back to the early 1800s, was purchased by the New River Historical Society in the 1980s and transformed into the current Wilderness Road Regional Museum. The museum now houses extensive archives, family research, and library, and features permanent displays such as the recreated 19th century country store as well as temporary displays on topics such as fashion, women's handiwork, and the area now covered by Claytor Lake. We also offer tours of outbuildings on the grounds (kitchen, granary, loom house, barn, and buggy shed).
