The Sherry Washington Gallery was established in 1989 in downtown Detroit to provide quality fine art to private collectors, museums and the corporate community. Our mission is to transform living and working spaces into aesthetically appealing and productive environments. We understand the needs of our clients and are committed to providing exemplary art services.
From its inception, the gallery has continued to represent some of the most innovative artists in America. Some of these artists are renowned for their painting, print making and/or sculpture. Among the gallery's artists are American master painters Benny Andrews, Richard Mayhew, and William T. Williams. We represent artists of Asian, Hispanic, European, and African descent. Realizing that a productive, multicultural work force requires a diverse work environment, our corporate clients have retained our services and expertise to visually increase the cultural diversity of their facilities by acquiring art which reflects their staff, market and community.
Noteworthy of these collections is the United American Healthcare Corporation (UAHC) collection because it contains some of the most significant art created in the twentieth century. To document this historical collection, in 1992, the gallery facilitated the publishing by Wayne State University, a leading academic press, of the UAHC catalogue, which captures the magnitude of the collection.
