In the summer of 1994, after painting and drawing for many years, John Silver made the shift into a full time life of Art. While painting with watercolors, John's intuitive expressions with paints lead to an immediate public response. He let his own style emerge and evolve over time. This emergence was helped along by some good teachers who recognized John's innate ability and encouraged him to let his subjective sense become his own source of expression.

While viewing the Van Gogh exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., John realized that Van Gogh's manipulation of paint, as well as his honest interpretation of places and things was a journey to fill a lifetime. John switched to painting with oils in 1999.

"Painting is not only a profession but is a way one lives", says John Silver. "When the brushes are silent, my mind is actively working on ideas; my eyes are tools that supply my mind."

Due to John's privileged life with paint, he has friends both corporate and private that collect his work from coast to coast and abroad. He feels honored and grateful for their patronage.

John Silver, a native North Carolinian, can be found most days on Roanoke Island, either in his studio or outdoors with a brush in hand.
