About Us:

As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) the Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History in Sioux Falls, SD strives to fulfill four major objectives: Education, Conservation, Recreation and Discovery.

The Great Plains Zoo features over 1,000 animals from around the world. The 45-acre park offers up-close views of animals often not found in larger zoos, including giraffes, tigers, rhinos and a jumping, hooting array of primates. Watch the playful tiger cubs at the Asian Cat exhibit. Visit "Imara" and "Jubba" at the new "Rare Rhinos of Africa" exhibit. Feed a goat, ride a camel, or get a kiss from a sheep with six horns in the Hy-Vee Face-to-Face Farm.

The Zoo also includes the Delbridge Museum of Natural History, a one-in-the-world collection of 150 mounted animals including 36 "vanishing species"

What a great place for me to take my grandchildren, or for a family to spend time together! So many nice exhibits to enjoy. The Safari train and the Carousel are wonderful to enjoy also. The punch card for rides is a nice addition...good savings! I highly recommend purchasing that. Having a yearly membership is the best. That includes discounts of snacks and gift shop items....helps when you take kiddos!

Beautifully groomed grounds accent the treasures within the zoo. Zoo keepers are keenly aware and attentive to the animals needs. You can see the bond of the animals and the keepers. The human to animal interaction is a clear visible respect regarding the training of staff. You can book private parties or events for a fantastic venue. The zoo offers educational opportunities or zoo camps for children to learn about the animals, keepers, and staff. Various free zoo events throughout the year draw in thousands of visitors. Zoo boo is always a wildly successful event. Zoo staff are friendly, helpful, and courteous. The website provides all of the information and any costs associated with the events. The zoo is my personal choice for getting my daily walks. The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum is a must see for any visitor to Sioux Falls.

We loved this zoo, it’s a little on the small side but it’s big on charm. Our favorite exhibit was the snow leopard exhibit, they had just fed him and we got to watch him chew on a nice big hunk of meat. We also really enjoyed watching the different birds in the aviary area. Staff was interactive and friendly enclosures were clean. The Bears were really playful and you could tell they were having a great time. I would recommend this for families, but we don’t have kids and we also had an amazing time!

We go to a lot of zoos and were pleasantly surprised by this one! The habitats were large and well kept and there were many employees around cleaning pathways, emptying garbage, ect... Many of the animals seemed to enjoy us as much as we enjoyed them! The rhino exhibit was really impressive. We hope to go back again soon!

This zoo has always been amazing, but with the addition of the bear exhibit, it's a must see in our community! We went first thing in the morning (9 am), and I have never seen the animals so alert and active. With animals like giraffes, rhinos, monkeys, bears, and tigers (to name a few), there is something for everyone to see! There is also a carousel and train to ride, but those will cost extra. A great place to spend a few hours!
