Join Quilter Artist and Keeper of the Culture, Cookie Washington for a Gullah Rag Rug class. Washington will provide an interactive demonstration of Rag Rug technique honoring Gullah artist Sharon Cooper-Murray “The Gullah Lady.” Passed down generation by generation, this technique traditionally combined feed and grain sacks with rag strips to make unique quilts.
This is a 4-hour “no sew” class utilizing special tools. Participants will each receive their own 9×9 inch square of burlap and will also contribute to a community rug. Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch and/or snacks.

Participants are strongly encouraged to bring additional bits of clothing or scrap fabric. All necessary tools will be provided for the workshop.
Registration is required. Classes with insufficient enrollment may be canceled. Students will be notified in advance and full refunds or the opportunity to transfer to another workshop will be offered. Student cancellations must be requested 48 hours in advance for a refund minus $10 administration fee. Full registration fee may be transferred to a future workshop or other adult program. Cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance will result in a forfeiture of the workshop fee.
